Spain is a state, which is located on a large part of Iberian Peninsula in the South – West of Europe, the country is rich in culture, beautiful landscapes and history. That is why Spain is known for its hot gypsy’s flamenco tunes, delicious cuisine and carnivals and festivals.

Climate Zones in Spain

As we know Spain has very diverse climate and topography: from the warm Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic coast; from the Pyrenees mountains to the sierras of Andalusia; from the rolling plains of La Mancha to the arid badlands of Alentejo in Portugal. Balearic and Canary Islands are the other attractions that make Spain even more interesting. It has a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot summer and cool and wet winters. The northern has a temperate – oceanic climate while the interior region has extreme conditions.

Early Civilizations

Spain has prehistoric roots and was was also occupied by Iberians, Celts, Romans and culture of the Visigoths. The civilization that really shaped the world is the Roman civilization which built aqueducts, amphitheaters and roads.

Moorish Influence

From the 8th up until the 15th century, the Moors had a great influence on Spain construction and art, many structure such as the Alhambra in Granada and the Great Mosque of Córdoba.

Golden Age and Beyond

Spain in the sixteenth and seventeenth century encompasses, apogee the age of exploration; empire building. Spain in the post Civil War period came into being and it became a democracy in the latter part of twentieth century.

Festivals and Celebrations

Art, Music, and Literature

Picasso, Dalí and Velázquez have been part of this country and Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote. Flamenco music and dancing is a real essence of Spain.

La Tomatina

Tomatina festival where participants wearing rather more clothes throw tomatoes at one another in Buñol.

Running of the Bulls

The extreme is when you attend an event in Pamplona during the San Fermín festival.

Semana Santa

An annual festival of liturgical dramas during Holy Week and with such processions.

Madrid

Madrid has great museums such as the Prado Museum and great nights out such as the nightlife.

Barcelona

Most recognized for the churches designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudí the Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell.

Seville

Famous mostly for its Alcazar, Gothic Cathedral and the famous flamenco dancing.

Granada

It is also the place where the fabulous Moorish palace and fortress the Alhambra is located.
